Robert Donald “Bob” “Bot” Norton of Plymouth, MN passed away on Tuesday, February 11 th , 2025 at the age of 83 years old. Bob was born on April 23rd, 1941 in Minneapolis, MN where he grew up over in St. Paul where the family operated greenhouses and later the family moved back to Minneapolis.
Bob graduated from Bloomington High in 1959. After his parents moved the family to Hawaii just after he graduated high school, island fever quickly hit. Before long Bob had moved back to the cold of Minnesota where he determined it was time to keep going. Bob enlisted in the Army and by way of Memphis, he was lucky enough to be stationed in West Germany. Bob met his wife Gisela there and they had a daughter Linda in beautiful Germany. Upon his return to the States with a young family and a VW Bug, Bob settled into building a life in Minnesota. Son Tim came along a few years later to make the family of four.
Bob used his intelligence, compassion for others, and leadership skills to build a successful corporate management career in senior leadership positions rising to Corporate Vice President after a 25 year career at National Car Rental and later he finished out his corporate career at 3M.
Bob had seen nearly every state, traveled to Japan and Europe and spent retirement in Florida, Arizona, California and finally Minnesota. Bob loved landscaping, crosswords, golf, played tennis as long as his shoulder would allow and he loved cheering for the Vikings to get over the hump each year.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents James and Gertrude, and his brother Jim. Bob is survived by his wive Gisela, daughter Linda, son Tim (his wife Abra) and his granddaughter Adelaide. Bob is also survived by his brothers Chuck and Bill and his sisters Trudy and Phyllis.
Bob was always quick to lend a hand, a kind word or some wit and humor. He was ever on the lookout for a nice restaurant to take his family and friends to share a memory and a good time. Bob was a caring dad, devoted husband and doting Grandpa as well as a trusted friend, co-worker and neighbor. His laugh, deep voice and thoughtful take will be missed. Forever.
